MY VISIT TO THE PINACOTECA DI BRERA

The Pinacoteca di Brera is a neoclassic palace built in the 1800s to collect artworks during the Napoleon invasion and later on became a school of arts, the Accademia di Belle Arti. Gothic paintings were collected by the french armies from churches and convents of Lombardy, mostly golden framed altar pieces and sacred paintings. In the museum you wIll also find masterpieces from the renaissance period, neorealistic and modern art.

The important paintings are: The Sposalizio della Vergine by Raffaello, Cristo Morto by Mantegna, Cena in Emmaus by Caravaggio and other famous works of Bellini, Rubens, Vivarini, Bramantino, Crivelli, Hayez, Vandyck, Picasso, Volpedo etc. The rooms in the musem are divided by the different centuries the artwork was made. At the entrance of the building, is a bronze statue of Napoleon I.

You can easily reach the Pinacoteca by foot from the Piazza del Duomo, taking a shortcut from the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele, Piazza Scala, Via Verdi and Via Brera.
