If you happen to come to Milan in the Autumn season, there are three beautiful parks to visit that are near the Duomo Cathedral or Piazza del Duomo. The Sempione Park, the gradens of Montanelli and Villa Belgiojoso and the Park of the Basilicas. These parks are within walking distances from the Piazza del Duomo.
With few tourists around at this time of the year, the city is less crowded and with the chilly autumn breeze,a visit to these parks are relaxing while you enjoy the tranquility and view of nature at its best. During the autumn season, it’s amazing to witness how nature explodes with red, yellow and golden color. The colorful gigantic seqouia trees and every corner of the park transformed into a picture perfect views like postcards. Italy was lucky to have beautiful sunny autumn months this year of 2015. My visit to these parks was a beautiful experience and the pictures i took are worth sharing.
At the exit of the Sforzesco Castle, there’s a beautiful park that will welcome you called the Sempione Park.. This park is beautifully designed in a romantic English style.. A 47 hectares of green and a vast recreational spaces for the Milanese for relaxation, sports and to enjoy the beauty of nature and fresh air in the heart of the city. It has a rich collection of trees, flora and fauna.
Around the park there are important museums and monuments to visit such as the Sforzesco Castle, the Arena Gianni Brera, The Triennale, The Acquario Civico and the monument of Napoleon III.
At the end of the park, you’ll encounter the monument called the ARC OF PEACE. This neoclassic style arc is dedicated to the peace that have reunited the nations of Europe after the Austrian invasion.The Arc was projected by Luis Cagnola in 1807 and the construction was completed by Giuseppe Londonio in 1838. In 1859, Napoleon III and Vittorio Emmauelle II, after winning the war from Austria, celebrated their victory in Milan with a commemorative passage thru this Arc.
In Via Palestro, not far from Piazza del Duomo, is the oldest park of Milan, which was later named after the journalist Indro Montanelli. In the late 1700s Giuseppe Permanini designed this 172,000 sq.m.vast green space and transformed the area into a public garden. With diverse species of flora an fauna. It has small lakes, a fountain in Palazza Dugnani, children playgrounds, pony rides, jogging trails and bicycles are allowed to enter the park. Inside you can also visit the Natural History Museum and The Planetarium Hoepli.
Just across the Montanelli park is the Villa Belgiojoso. This palace was designed in the 18th century and remained as one of the best neoclassic building in the city of Milan. It is facing a 20,000 sq.m botanical garden and majority of the plants are centuries old. This garden is designed with streams, natural passageway, old ravines, a temple and caves. A park that is exclusively reserve for small children, where they can run freely and watch the ducks swim in the pond.
A vast area which was transformed into a park in the middle of a busy district. It was called the Park of the Basilicas beacuse it connects two very antique churches, the Byzantine of San Lorenzo and Sant’ Eustorgio, a Romanesque style from the 9th century. This Basilica keeps the relics of the Three Kings. An archeological and spiritual passageway and a relaxing place for students and office workers to spend their free time during the day.
