FOOD UNITES…My visit to the MILAN EXPO 2015

The MILAN EXPO2015  is a global event participated in by 145 countries working together  with different methods and objectives to interpret and make a real contribution to the theme of Expo2015  FEEDING THE PLANET, ENERGY FOR LIFE.  The aim is to create a unique experience for visitors, as protagonists, increasing their awareness of and seeking their participation in their drive for the right to food that is healthy, safe and sufficient, the environmental, social and economic sustainability of the food chain and the perseverance of taste and food culture.

The Expo which started in May will be open until October 31.  There are ongoing events, meetings, fair, Head-of-the-State Visits,  cultural shows, concerts, and food exhibits from the  participating countries.

It was on the second week of June when i visited the Expo, the summer vacation has just started and so i expected this long line of milanese and tourists.

This is the first view you’ll see on your way to the entrace.   Its the first pavillion that welcomes you to the site. It’s called the PAVILLION ZERO.  It’s designed by an italian architect Michele de Lucchi.  The shape of the pavillion is inspired by the hills in the northeastern region of  Italy.  This is the mother of all pavillions.  Inside, visitor’s are introduced to the main objective of the Expo and guide them to what they will see in the Expo.

FOOD PEOPLE

These gigantic statues located in front of the Pavillion Zero  welcomes the Expo visitors. The sculptures of Dante Ferretti called the POPOLO DEL CIBO or FOOD PEOPLE.  These statues are inspired from the works of Guiseppe Arcimboldi. The statues are artly decorated with different elements of and about  food. These statues were already exhibited  around the world while promoting the EXPO.

PAVILL

The participating countries has their own pavillions that are designed by international architects which represents each countries own themes.  The pavillions hold the exhibits, research, cultural shows and displays of the country’s products.

TREE

The TREE OF LIFE  is the symbol of the Expo.  it is situated beside the Italian Pavillion.  It is a 37 meters of height and was designed by Marco Balich.  His idea  ” represents innovation reaching for the future while maintaining the roots of the rennaisance”.

It is a place for visitors to meet and relax. And at nightime, one shouldn’t miss the spectacular shows of water and dancing lights, fireworks and  music.  The show starts at 9pm and lasts for two hours.  These are the beautiful lights of the Tree of Life.
